Good Fruit

If it doesn't mean a thing, then don't say anything.
But it means something, more then we can say.
But you kissed me so, even though,
Your heart said no, so when will you phone?
Lost feelings of love come flooding back,
Every time you cry, you give me little heart attacks.
Love seems strongest when its new,
But that's something I can't prove,
I can't prove that I love you.
Oh I need you here, so make your reasons clear,
Is it me you fear? Oh I fear I'm losing you.
It's time to choose, you know I can't stand losing.
It's my mind your bruising, as well as my heart.
You were just there, in the right place,
You smoothed out the wrinkles on my face.
You got to sort the good fruit from the bad fruit,
Darling, I'm not supposed to feel this,
Not when your leaving.
You, oh you should stick around,
To hear me hit the ground,
Its such a pretty sound.
If you felt it weeks ago,
Then where did those feelings go?
Oh surely you must know,
Cause I'm not supposed to feel this,
Not when you're leaving

I Will Make Her Love Me

Something strikes me as wrong,
I think Christine might have known all along.
It feels like '89 in my heart but '69 in my head.
She came home about three,
Smelling just like a brewery,
She's got a generous way it would seem,
But it's not meant for me.

I will make her love me,
I will make her love me,
I will make her love me,
For both our good,
For both our good.
If she's not thinking of me,
Then why do I think she'll love me?
I guess I think she'll love me,
For both our good,
For both our good.

Christine's got cloth in her ears,
I said it once and I said it clear,
I want no more screwing around it's embarrassing me.
It would be nice to hear it from her,
Cause I hear it from my friends and it's getting absurd,
They say, "Haven't you got any pride?",
They don't know what she's like

Seafaring

Waves that big will sink a ship this size,
The memory of the friends we lose,
Stains our days like a bruise.

In a storm like this, this vessel will capsize,
My love has the prettiest head cause Jesus sleeps between her legs.

On the holiest of nights,
when the angel sleeps so tight,
I stay awake to watch her breathing.
On the coldest morning after,
I hear the sound of laughter,
From people who can't be as happy as me.

Jessica acts as my harbour,
Within her arms is my haven.
She thinks that I'm worthy and able.
So I kiss her from her toes to her navel.
Her hair it acts as a beacon,
Drawing me away from the harlots and their wanton ways,
And all the lonely people need her so.

And Christ alone knows how he made those lips,
The deity worked over time, I see his likeness in her eyes.
And as we sale towards the calmer seas,
Fifty thousand beads of sweat running down her long white legs.

On the sunniest of summers, When I wake from winter slumber,
And smell the school girls hair as they go bathing and,
Sin will lose the one I love,
Jessie's hair is long enough,
To wipe away the fact that she is sixteen years old.

Other Information

Too Pure seemed to think there was a chance of us getting near the charts or breaking through to the mainstream around this time, so some pressure was put on us to do things we wouldn't normally do, like for instance multi-formatting the singles.

We always tried our best to not rip the fans off and the compromise we reached in the end with this was to get other bands to remix the songs on the seven inch version. We picked bands that we liked that weren't necessarily indie. We were trying to reflect what we were listening to at the time and encouraged the bands to make their versions sound as different as possible.

The Wisdom of Harry is essentially Pete Astor who used to be in one of my favourite bands ; The Weather Prophets. He was my publishing A and R man and was a big help through the first few albums.   I Will Make Her Love Me and Seafaring were both recorded during the City sessions. Seafaring is one of the last songs from Breaking God's Heart period, we had recorded it several times before and played it live a fair bit before finally nailing it here.

I Will Make Her Love me is interesting for the fact that if you listen closely on headphones you can hear John Morrison's mobile phone going off and me trying hard not to laugh.
